Cat's Cradle

An experiment in perspective. Many layers of the same video are projected onto receding transparent layers.

The basic idea for this video was to blend together multiple copies of the same video in such a proportion and with such relative motion that they appear to have depth.

This follows an observation that video and sculpture share a property that they each use three dimensions. In the case of video, the third dimension is time.

Is it possible by moving the video layers at scaled speeds, to give an illusion of depth from a flat video?

This video is a sequence of scenes which attempt to demonstrate that observation.

The audio is an experimental music track that has been edited to synchronise reasonably with the video.

After the first minute, the whole thing is fairly repetitive, with just a little shuffling of the components and little new.

A failed experiment.
